Ever drifted into a thought space that is false yet amazing? You are able to scheme out a plot that doesn’t exist but feels great thinking about it? (Please say yes!)
Well you are not alone.
Have you tried taming this beast of thoughts? Why should you? I believe you should let it run loose. Churning out fantasies and wonders and ideas that are seldom real and majorly fictional but nonetheless glorious is a good mental exercise! Starts at one point and journeys to another with or without intermediate stops. Smoothly sailing like a beautiful story.
I often drift through an imaginative world when I am left on my own. Conjuring up dialogues and scenarios from my imaginative world is easy-peasy. I can either have different versions and extensions to previously thought out scenes or cook up something entirely new. Here’s a sneak peek into my world of thoughts.
I have a story where I become the first Indian to win an Oscar for best supporting actress because winning best actress is a little hypothetical, don’t you think? ;). The award is for a drama movie where there is a lot of profanity, action and crying. It’s something to do with saviours and helping people. This same movie stars Chris Evans and he wins an Oscar for Best supporting actor. It so happens that we two make a great team and thank each other in our acceptance speeches! There is an extension of this story where we two realize that we have so much in common and we become best friends for life. (Another version is where I am not an actor and we two meet each other during some sort of holidaying and we instantly become friends). How sweet!
Moving onto another spectrum of thoughts. Here I’m an athlete. Apparently, a good one. I represent my country in sports (not sure which one; it’s all quite blurry but I know it’s for a sport that amounts to least physical body exertion) and I obviously win and they play my country’s national anthem to which I get all teared up. How emotional!
The next one involves exploring my entrepreneurial skills. I own a tiny cafe that serves niche food. I don’t serve a wide spread of food because this cafe is known for only a particular kind of item. It mostly revolves around some form of pastry. I also serve tea and coffee with it. I am a big success and people flock to my place. It’s mostly the young college kids and friends meeting for a good catch up. My father helps me with the business and we are at loggerheads on almost every decision. He is mostly miffed with the way I handle the finances because I refuse to go to the bank. Though this happens a lot , we appear to put up a bright happy duo faces in front of the customers. My brother gives his world knowledge and tactics and helps with social media marketing. I am not super rich out of running this business but I make decent money (no loss, only steadily increasing profits). Oh and my mom disapproves of the fact that we run a “tea shop” (as she calls it).
I just realized that this imaginative piece is closest to reality. All the characters play their true selves. Quite wonderful!
Apart from these big storylines there are few smaller instantaneous ones. I can look at the wall and ceiling of any boring place (say an office) and mentally whip up a colorful pattern of moving synchronized lights with music (like an electronic music concert) and make it a visual extravaganza. No, I am not under any substances to conceptualize this. It’s just out there.
I hope my glimpse of fictional thoughts reassures you to keep dreaming and fantasizing because it’s absolutely normal. It can even crack you up if you had to share them with your friends. In the end, you never know which of those thoughts you might want to become reality.
